AH, CLAIRE’S ACCESSORIES.
If you grew up in the early noughties, chances are you regarded it as a Mecca of sorts.
Because let’s face it, it was a 13-year-old girl’s paradise.
A one-stop shop for hair bobbins, hairbands and fishnet tights.
You frittered away all your pocket money in there.
A ring that turns my finger green? Take all my money!
And you couldn’t walk in without bumping into four people you knew.
*stares at classmate eyeing the same hairclip as you*
DON’T YOU DARE, SINEAD.
Getting your ears pierced in Claire’s Accessories was a tween rite of passage.
Walking in with your pals on a Saturday, selecting your pair of studs and bracing yourself as a 21-year-old pierced your ears. Memories!
You remember girls in school regaling each other with tales of stealing from Claire’s…
“Kate picked up a ring in Claire’s Accessories and put it in her pocket.”
“KATE, YOU DIDN’T!”
It’s only now that you can appreciate how ludicrous some of the accessories were.
Did I really spend my parents’ hard-earned money on toe rings and anklets? What was I thinking?
It was a must-visit before Halloween.
So many cat ears! So many orange and black tights!
Even if it was pretty hellish at that time of year.
To be honest, you just wish there was an adult equivalent.
Best shop ever.
